St Oliver Plunkett School Primary School and Nursery 9 Laragh Road, Beragh, Omagh

SSE Airtricity Community Fund

30th Jul 2019

Today at Kelly's Inn, SSE Airtricity, Northern Ireland's second largest energy provider, presented more than £44,000 to 14 local community groups located near the Slieve Divena II Wind Farm.

St. Oliver Plunkett PS was fortunately one of those groups and has been successful in obtaining funding of £5,500 which will be used to upgrade the lighting in the school to energy efficient LED lighting.  This will be of great benefit to all the pupils and staff of the school.

Work will commence to replace our existing old fashioned school lighting with state-of-the-art LED lighting, which will ensure the school makes its energy use more sustainable, reduces our carbon footprint and hopefully sees the proven educational benefits to our children of brighter and better lit learning environments.  It is intended to have all lighting upgrade work completed before the children start back to school in early September.

Thanks are expressed to SSE Airtricity for this wonderful contribution which will make such a positive impact, and which during the current difficult financial circumstances in which all schools now operate, could never be funded by our school.

Thanks also to Mr Barry Conroy who made the successful application to the SSE Airtricity Community Fund.
